Blogging from Baker Street

Baker Street has become my new Saturday night thing. I am able to take the laptop and make generous use of the free wi-fi that this cafe allows.

The laptop is a piece of work, to be sure. It needs a new battery; and as a result, it requires that I have the power cord plugged in at all times. And the dude (dudette?) who designed the thing put the two USB ports right next to the port for the power cable. Meaning that I can't plug in my gigantic Belkin wireless stick thing without my desktop's USB hub.

So, natch, tonight I forgot the hub. And I remembered it right as I was pulling into the Baker Street parking lot.

Thus, I found myself driving back home. And on the way, some idiot in a red SUV flat-out ran a red light at Sul Ross and Sunset, nearly hitting me. I blasted my horn, realized that this was the second incident I've had at that intersection (though admittedly, this was much less severe, but STILL), and I have come to the conclusion that the intersection is bad news.

But anyway, here I sit on yet another Saturday night, drinking chai tea and blogging. And not surprisingly, this cafe is mostly empty--the college kids are done with the semester, so they're all gone.

Still, I'd like to think that most people visit here when they've got nothing else to do. Some bring laptops and type, some sit and talk with companions, and others sit by themselves to read the paper. Occasionally some group of middle or high school hipsters will haunt the establishment, but otherwise people stay fairly contented. Some fall in love, some fall out. I've done both here many, many times.

Crud, I'm getting deep. Better stop that before I become a hipster.

(Then again, there's the blogging and chai tea. I already am one! Darn.)
